Hike For The Homeless

A Tradition on the Bangor Waterfront

Join us for our 29th Annual Hike for the Homeless on April 6, 2024!

Make a difference in our Bangor community by helping reduce homelessness.

It’s a fun family event with radio DJ Cori Skall (On I-95 95.7FM and Z107.3FM), refreshments by Hollywood Casino and Jason’s Pizza, with a chance to win fabulous raffle prizes!

The hike is a leisurely stroll through downtown Bangor. It’s about 2.4 miles on paved sidewalks. The hike starts and ends at the Front Street parking lot on the Bangor Waterfront.  Arrive between 9:30 and 9:45am. Hikers start walking at 10am.

Over the past year, more than 2,000 individuals visited the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter in need of a clean, safe place to stay, a hot meal and other supportive services.  Thankfully, the shelter was there for them.

BAHS is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  Twenty-one full -and part-time employees, and several volunteers, work to provide shelter, crisis intervention, hot meals, and a safe environment for those experiencing homelessness.  Currently, 57 percent of the people who stay at the Shelter have a mental illness, chronic addiction and/or medical issue.  BAHS provides important connections to services, including medical and psychiatric care.

State and federal funds only provide one-third of the Shelter’s budget of over $900,000.  The donations you make allows the shelter to stay open and helps the homeless right here in the greater Bangor area.

It’s not required, but we encourage those participating to seek pledges.

Whether or not you plan on walking in the Hike, pledges are a great way to participate, bring awareness to others who may not have heard about the Hike and to help us reach our $50,000 fundraising goal!  Pledge forms can be downloaded and printed below or picked up at the Shelter (263 Main Street).
