3. What is the criteria to stay at the Shelter?
Anyone seeking shelter at BAHS must first meet with staff in person and complete an initial intake. Beds are not reserved over the phone, and we act on a first come first served basis. We can only accept males and females 18 years of age or older. Guest at BAHS must be clean and sober from drugs or alcohol.
4. How long can someone stay at the Shelter?
Each individual's length of stay is different. As long as someone is following rules and working hard everyday on their plan of care, there is no set length of stay. Individuals are dealt with on a case by case basis.
5. What is the criteria to access BAHS food pantry?
Food Pantry is every Tuesday and Thursday from 1pm-4pm. Individuals are allowed access to our pantry once a month. You will speak with a staff/volunteer when you arrive and they will need basic information such as your name, address and number of people in your household.
6. How do I become a volunteer for BAHS?
All volunteers can fill our our volunteer application. We receive many inquiries for volunteers and we cannot accommodate each request, and we try to do our best to give as many people as we can an opportunity to donate their time. For more information on volunteer opportunities click here.
7. Does the Shelter accept clothing donations?
We are limited to what we are accept for clothing donations, due to a lack of storage space. We often suggest to folks the Bangor Rescue Mission, located on the corner of 3rd and Warren St- not too far from the Shelter. The mission works with the homeless population regularly, so we highly suggest making a donation to their re-sale shop.
