Can you help make Christmas special for people experiencing homeless?
We’re gathering stocking stuffer gifts for every guest. We usually have 43 people living in our shelter on Christmas day. If you have any questions about gifts email gretchenf@bangorareashelter.org
What do people coming to our shelter need most?
While we appreciate the thoughtfulness of every donation, somethings are not helpful.
Please don’t donate falling apart shoes, women’s heels, used underwear, ripped clothes, stained clothes, smelly clothes, or out of style clothes from decades ago. We are an adult only shelter, please don’t donate children’s clothes.
Please don’t donate expired food. One of the funniest donations we got was a can of Campbell’s soup that expired in 1993!
Donating made easy, Walmart and Amazon ship directly to our building.
Most Needed Things:
- Winter gloves, men’s or women’s, new or used.
- Winter boots, any sizes, men’s or women’s, new or used.
- Sneakers, new or used. Men’s sizes 10 to 13 are most needed.
- Men’s jeans waist size 30, 32, 34, and 36. Any length is fine, new or used.
- Men’s boxer briefs, only new, any size.
- Men’s hoodies or sweatshirts. Please don’t donate sweaters. They’re too hard to wash.

Yes! I will leave a lasting legacy. Consider leaving a gift to the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter during your estate planning.
Did you also know you can make a Required Minimum Donation from your IRA retirement account tax-free? The qualified charitable distribution rule allows traditional IRA owners to deduct their RMDs on their tax returns if they give the money to a charity. The rule can effectively reduce your income taxes by lowering your adjusted gross income. Check with your tax adviser to see if this could work for you.
